December 2007

Arrival - We arrived December 2007 via Continental Airlines with a connection in Houston. Then took Tropic Air from Belize airport on a short 15 minute hop to Ambergris Caye.

Rooms - We stayed in an oceanfront suite. The room was spacious with a great view of the ocean. They had in-room safes, hairdryers. The kitchen was fully equipped. They were cleaned daily by the maid staff and although we didn't have any immediate concerns, I feel they would of been taken care of right away.

Restaurants - The El Divino restaurant was nice. The waitstaff was friendly. Our package included daily breakfast. We tried a number of items on the menu and everything was good.

Bars - The bar was small, but their Banana Collada was quite good. They ran 2 for 1 specials everyday.

Beach and Pools - There were 2 pools. One in the middle of the resort and a smaller one on the side. They were clean and nice for cooling off. The beach was quite clean with a number of lounge chairs available. The beach was nice for taking walks.

Grounds - The grounds were groomed daily. The beach was raked in the morning and the pool areas, cleaned and swept.

Activities - There were no activities at the resort. They did have music playing down at the beach.

Tours - Monkey Business Tours was located on the resort. They took care of all of our booking. We went on the usual snorkelling, fishing and sunset cruise. All were very nice. Since Ambergris Caye has the second largest barrier reef, snorkelling was exceptional. There were a number of divers staying at the hotel and boats picked you up at dock in front of the hotel for your morning or afternoon tour.

Conclusion - The main transportation around the island was the rental of golf carts, which were taken care of at the resort. We had a weekly rental that was convenient when we went in to San Pedro to shop, explore and eat. This was one of the nicest vacations we have taken. The Belizean people are very friendly. I don't know if it's because they all speak English, but they truly care about you as a traveller. I hope that when we return in a few years, it hasn't lost its charm of a quiet, friendly vacation spot.
