I have heard lots of talks about this Paradisus hotel and decided to go see it and experience it for myself and it was worth the decision because it is worth the hype. I and my daughter visited here for the vacation and she can’t stop talking about the holiday and says she will be coming back with me to this hotel for our Christmas vacation. The beach was immaculate so we spent our every day on the beach; the weather was perfect so what more could we ask for. The beach was very clean and calm, new loungers were available and they were never short of any the lounge chairs. The beach was never crowded during our stay and the building we were in was close to the beach so it was perfect. The staff here always treated the guests like family, they were so sweet and the cleaning lady we had was more than sweet to us, we really appreciate it. I can say that I and my daughter liked most of the restaurants at the Paradisus Varadero resort, they served nice meals especially the Japanese, it was our favorite. The buffet restaurant had many varieties making us looking forward to meal times every day, it was the perfect holiday. The rooms were really pretty, well designed and clean, daily cleaning service, nice beach that is clean always; nice loungers and wonderful staff who made us feel at home. The restaurants were amazing; we had a wonderful holiday and will definitely come back.

i went to this resort about 3 years earlier and it was amazing. However, when i visited this time, it was far from it. The beach is amazing, but the food was severely lacking. The buffet always had flies all over the food and even little birds would fly in and peck at the food. I was disgusted. This happened everyday. I went to the French a la carte restaurant and it was very bad. The portions were tiny and nothing compared to last time. The piece of lobster was burnt and very small. I went to the Japanese a la carte and it was also horrible. We also saw 2 cockroaches crawling beside our table. We told the waitress and she acted like it was nothing, so we left early. I got sick from something in the food and had to stay in the room for a full day. The entertainment was average. I can also say that the service quality declined compared to 3 years ago. Some of the cooks at the grill would be ignorant to people unless you gave them a peso, just so they can cook you a few pieces of meat. I don`t know why the reviews on this hotel are so great, but honestly don`t waste your money here.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Pardisus in November/2011. We upgraded to Royal Service as we were only there for a week and thought we would live it up for the short time we were there. The rooms were great, that staff was very good the problems were that there are 75 Royal suite and only 20 cabanasa near the pool so needless to say over 50% of the people never had anywhere to relax. The beach on the RS side of the resort was terrible, actually due to the rocks it was not usable. In order to find sand it was at least a 1/2 km walk one way or the other, not the worst thing of course but it seems foolish to pay an extra 100 euros a day for the displeasure of not being close to the beach or pool.

Our first trip to Cuba and it was magnificent. We were at the Paradisus for one week in the Royal Service section and will definitely return. Everything was done to perfection including rooms, service, meals, staff, transfers and anything else I can think of. No negatives. Thank you, Paradisus for making our 20th anniversary memorable.

Personal transfer from the airport, champagne on arrival, personal check in. No line ups, no buses. How great is that?

Excellent with marble/granite; modern bathrooms with vessel sinks, private toilet/bidet. It did take us a day to bet accustomed to showering outside in the Balinese shower but what a great experience.

Restaurants and Bars:
Absolutely no complaints. We tried all the a la carte restaurants and found them exceptional. Our own private restaurant was exceptional as well.

The grounds were kept very clean and trimmed. The pool was delightful. The private beach at the Royal Service is currently being upgraded as I write this. The private beach at the main hotel was great. Love the Balinese beds.

Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel:
For those of you who are avid golfers, save your money and bypass the Varadero Golf Club. It is very rough, not maintained even though the bones are there for an excellent golf experience. They charge way too much for carts and club rentals so if your green fees are included in your package (as ours was) it will still cost well over what you pay at a first class club.

Other Comments:
Get to know your manager and the staff as they make your holiday a great one. Don't forget to tip on a regular basis and then you are assured of a delightful experience. We took small gifts from Canada for the room staff and they do appreciate it.

This is my favorite island I have gone with my daughter and myself.and just by myself.

I have been to Cuba numerous times. But this is where I try to go every year. for me Cuba is one of the safest places to go.I have made many friends and they tell me of their customs culture and help build my Spanish vocabulary one phrase at a time.
The Guest relations are the best .there is a bank there as well.We stayed at ibestar and have friends at both resorts but I would choose Paradisus.a
Ibestar does have a pharmqcy.

Very clean I leave what I can school supplies soap as gifts.but I try to give to gardeners, guest relations towel personel.there is a bathtub and shower and only one occasion water was Luke warm. The gals make swans out of towels .If u need anything just ask.

Restaurants and Bars:
There are a few restaurants.I like the one by the pools for lunch and the main buffet for evening.Jocelyn makes a mean strawberry daiquiri as well as lobby bar has exspresso .I buy coffee for my friends here but I don't drink coffee so I cant spell it right. There is a little shop in is great Cuba has great ice cream and my daughter will agree.
I find food good and fish poultry dishes very good. There are different types of bread and excellent.

There are several pools to choose from kids quiet pools swim up bar.there are no vendors asking u for anything but there is couple on this stretch of beautiful secluded beach.there are sports activities.the grounds are magnificent. I did mind getting lost on the complex as there is such beautiful flowers gazebos

The gardeners make little creatures for the kid from palm fronds..I gave one of the gardeners a pair of gardening gloves and every day he smiled and gave me a flower .

Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel:
There is ping pong and pool activities nite shows.there are baby sitters.for the kids and I know my friends there are great with kids.and super busy .
Irvine and Oscar at the towel return are helpful love to share a joke and professional.if u want to know where to go see or best deals.

For Repeat customers a discount is given.Everyone is helpful and smile.Cuba loves Canada.A smile a please and thank you shown goes a long way .
I also know I take a Spanish english dictionary and I also have given many of the planet dictionaries as gifts as they want lot learn English.
5stars .

An absolutely amazing hotel. Opposed to other hotels we saw in Varadero, this hotel meets every expectation. When you arrive champagne is handed over. The hotel complex itself looks fantastic. A beautiful private beach, a huge pool, nice lounge with much entertainment. Also the restaurants were good.

One negative point, we didn't had warm water, something you would definitely expect for this hotel and this price. Probably it was a temporary problem.

This is our 3rd trip in 2 years and we were lucky enough to experience the Paradisus Varadero’s brand new Royal Service. I reviewed the main resort previously; this review is largely specific to the new Royal Service.

Butler service

The PV has chosen their most experienced, charming and multi-lingual staff for the Royal Service. They bent over backward to make our stay great. Extensive room service is available 24 hours a day.

Your Arrival:
Once again, the best staff have been assigned to Royal Service. Check in, check out, questions, etc. were all handled very quickly and easily.

The entire reception, lobby, etc. is air conditioned and therefore mosquito-free if that’s a concern for you. We didn’t encounter many mosquitos this trip but have on trips in the summer. There's a nice little lounge area with a decent pool table for a lazy end to a long, hot day!

Most of the villas have 2 suites upstairs and 2 downstairs. Ours was downstairs and had a private patio with table, chairs and a lounge/sofa. The bedroom-sitting area is attractive and large, and has a couch, 2 armchairs and a coffee table, flat screen TV, built-in bar fridge (fully stocked) and picture windows/doors out onto the patio. Full water view. The king-size bed is more comfortable than the usual PV beds; still not luxurious but a definite improvement. There is a pillow menu, from which you can choose various shapes and fills. We tried several – lots of fun! Large walk-in closet with lots of hanging and drawer space and a safe.

Bathroom – yes, it rates its own review!

The bathroom is as wide as the bedroom, with a large spa-bath. There are various aromatherapy products for the bath and your butler will actually come and draw your personally-selected bath for you. I didn’t avail myself of this, but if you’re into that kind of service, have a blast! There are “his” and “hers” counters, each with a sink, large mirror, lots of counter space. Between the 2 counters is the door to your private Roman courtyard with a latticed roof for semi-shade and privacy, little palm tree, gardens and a path down the middle to the outdoor shower in the tiled wall. WOW! Gorgeous! I couldn’t get enough of standing in the warm Cuban air while showering. It was a very clean vacation!

Restaurants and Bars:
Pool bar

Has its own mint patch for freshly-made mojitos! Really great service unless there is a large group of guests on hand, in which case they need more backup.

Private restaurant

Excellent food, excellent service for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This is the closest to really fine dining that we have encountered in Cuba - we have always enjoyed the food in the main resort but this is a step up! There are lots of choices of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes, as well as soups, desserts, etc.

Lobby bar

Air conditioned and therefore mosquito-free if that’s a concern for you. We didn’t encounter many mosquitos this trip but have on trips later in the summer. The 24-hour lobby bar is small and not many people used it – but we enjoyed getting an early morning tea or a drink after the show. If you’re looking for more action, head over to the main resort’s lobby or disco. You can always ask for a ride in one of the little guest transports.

The lovely private pool is surrounded by lots of those big, square palapas with mattresses, bolsters and room for 2 or more. Curtains tie up for sun or hang down for shade. Also very comfortable lounge chairs. It was marvelous to have the option of this (usually) quiet pool in the Royal Service, or the bigger pools with more going on in the main resort.

Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel:
Spa and gym: A gorgeous, full-service 5* spa and fully-equipped gym are now available.

Other Comments:
The rest of the resort: Well, we wouldn’t be back again if we didn’t love the place! Check out the newer reviews for more info on the fabulous beach, lovely grounds, great restaurants, big pools and friendly staff!

"The beach is the best one I have ever been to"

Arrival: June 25 - July 02
This was a beautiful resort. The people in Cuba are very welcoming to Canadians and were very pleasant. Air conditioning is only in your room and the restaurants. It was very very very hot and humid but we stayed at the beach most of the day.

Rooms were very spacious.

Restaurants and Bars:
Great restaurants especially Italian and Japanesse. Make sure air conditioning is working though it can get very hot at this time of the year.

The beach is the best one I have ever been too. White sand , clear, turquoise water. This beach is absolutely beautiful.

Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel:
Didn't want to go on any tours because we were only there one week and we loved the beach too much too leave it. But we did speak to others who went to Havana, swimming with the dolphins and said they were great tours.

Other Comments:
The only compaint would be the mosquitoes. They would hover around your door first thing in the morning and come out again at night. Many of the guests were bitten on legs and arms and they became very itchy. There would be mosquitoes in your room at night and it became hard to sleep as they buzzed in your ear. They were quite annoying. Not sure if this would be a problem in the winter months though. So if you travel in summer bring spray and after bite. Make sure to bring items such as soap, hats, t-shirts, clothing(for men, woman and children) ,toys, etc. the Cuban people appreciate everything and we wish we had brought more for them. So please if you go bring what you can. It was certainly a great feeling to see how happy they were to receive our gifts. Bring medications from home i.e. advil, pepto-bismol etc. the store does not carry too many drug store items so bring what you need !!!!

Arrival: May 17-24
We booked with Air Canada Vacations, and flew directly from Calgary to Varadero. Bus waited for us at the airport, and after about 30 min we where at the resort. Checking in was within a couple of minutes, and shortly after, our luggage was transferred to our room. Everything went smoothly.

The resort has 28 bungalows with 8 rooms each. It really doesn't matter in which bungalow you are, as everything is within 5 minutes of walking distance. Our room was very clean and comfortable. What we really liked is the central air-conditioning system, as opposed to a window type at some other hotels, which was very efficient and noiseless. Furniture shows some ageing, but nothing of a serious concern. I've read some reviews, where people complained about mattresses being too hard to sleep on, but we didn't find it to be true. They are firm, but not overly. Room service was excellent, and whatever you ask, you get. The only missing thing in the room was an alarm clock, so don't forget to bring one along, if you need it.

Restaurants and Bars:
We really didn't come here for food or drinks, but we were truly amazed with food. There are 4 al a carte restaurants (reservation required), main buffet restaurant, pool restaurant, and beach restaurant. They are all first class restaurants even by western standards. Variety of food was unbelievable, and it's quality very good to excellent. Although, everything was within short distance, the best part was daily barbeque at the beach, with no need to leave the beach, or step out from your swimwear. There are bars everywhere. Beach, lobby, pool, swim-up. Drinks flow in rivers, alcoholic, or non alcoholic. We were told that the water from bar machines is purified, and even ice is made from it. We did not experience any health problems, neither with food nor water.
