Whilst having a base on holiday means somewhere to lay your head on the beach, you know which restaurants to go to, and shopping is easy, it’s always a good idea to head out on a few excursions. This is the best way to break up your holiday time and cuts out the possibility of boredom setting in.

Boredom?! I hear you shout!

Come on, even the most beach loving of people will get bored of laying horizontal at some point, and an excursion is the best way to see something of interest around the surrounding area, and maybe learn something along the way.

The vast array of all inclusive breaks in Varadero means facilities aplenty, however there is a huge range of excursions you can head out on too.

Here’s just a few you might like to check out during your fantastic sunshine break in Varadero.

Havana – Now come on, who doesn’t want to visit the colorful Cuban capital? Most excursions take a full day, or some can be overnight. The Tropicana show is usually visited on the way back to Varadero, and this is a fun cabaret night out, so take that camera and enjoy. Some tours also visit a cigar factory.

Three cities tour – This tour is referred to as this because, predictably, it visits three cities around the area! Cienfuegos, Trinidad and Matanzas are all on the itinerary, with stunning scenery between them and plentiful museums and history.

Jeep safari – Heading into the countryside by jeep is one of the best ways to see the beautiful nature around the area, and there are opportunities to snorkel too, with Saturn Cave and Coral Beach on the itinerary. Cruising down the Canimar River is a stunning experience.

Tropicana Varadero – Just like the famous Tropicana Club in Havana, Varadero has its own version, albeit on a smaller stage and much, much closer to your holiday base. Transport is generally included, and you might even find you get a free welcome cocktail as you go in – bargain!

Seafari Crucero Del Sol – Catamaran cruising is the best way to see the coastline from a different standpoint, as well as snorkelling opportunities for visiting the colourful and diverse marine-life on offer. If you’re lucky you might get to see dolphins.

Swimming with dolphins – Speaking of dolphins, the dolphinarium is where you can learn about these fascinating creatures, and also swim with them. This is a hugely popular activity, so always book early.

Matanzas and Bellamar Cave – The center of the Matanzas Province is obviously the city of Matanzas, and the nearby Bellamar Caves are the oldest and deepest in the whole country.

Boat trip – Wherever in the world you go, a boat trip obviously must be on the to-do list, however around Varadero, you can head off sailing through mangroves and lagoons, visiting pink flamingos and crocodiles, to name a few.

Jungle canopy tour – Hugely popular, this relatively new trip takes you high above the jungle floor on zip lines, making it a perfect activity for thrill seekers, and especially for teens and older kids. The nature you will see is simply breathtaking.

As you can see, Varadero offers much more than just a beach holiday!
