At the end of a little side street that leads to the bustling Sosua nightlife stands a white and very romantic Victorian-style hotel with an immense terrace that also can be observed from the beach of Sosua bay. The semi circular balconies that hug the massive steep cliff make this terrace absolutely unique.

From the moment you arrive at hotel Piergiorgio, it is evident that the Italian owner Mrs. Tirabasso with her (unfortunately nowadays) deceased husband set out to create a piece of Italy in the Dominican Republic.

You reach the terrace by walking through the lobby, passing the impressive winding staircase, the tranquil mid-sized swimming pool and the open-air buffet restaurant. The tables are dressed with white and pink table linens and are further decorated with a lovely flower in a small white vase. The fragrance of oregano, pasta sauce and freshly baked pizza is welcoming me. I look up to a wonderful ancient tree and I sing to myself, O Solo Mio!

Despite the fact I arrived by myself and I am not pursuing a romantic adventure at the moment, I prefer to be seated at one of these special Romeo and Juliette balconies. Not long after I take my seat on a beautiful cast iron chair, a smiling, bald headed man is approaching me. I instantly recognize the Chef of restaurant Puntilla Piergiorgio, Luciano Merlino by his white double-breasted chef outfit. Before he greets me he wipes his hands clean on a kitchen towel, which dangles from his pants. The proud Luciano loves to talk and gives me a complete overview of his culinary capabilities. His specialties are deserts and other wonderfully sweet treats like cakes and super sweet breakfast breads.

I got the feeling that during my last visit to Sosua and while staying in Hotel Piergiorgio Palace, I have gained 5 kg (no) thanks to the delicious fresh pastas and deserts that Luciano secretly served me late at night at the hotel bar! Although I do have to go on a diet now, I do not have any regrets. :)
