Life is good at the Rockhouse restaurant.

When you are fortunate enough to make it to Jamaica’s wonderful coastal town Negril, there is one experience you should not pass up upon. When you are fortunate enough to make it to Jamaica’s wonderful coastal town Negril, there is one experience you should not pass up upon. I am referring to dinner at the Rockhouse Restaurant, which is located some 2.5 miles west of town. The experience is likely to be one of the (romantic) highlights of your vacation and although the restaurant is not exactly cheap, I feel it is worth every penny.

I first stumbled across the lovely restaurant a few years ago after a walk with a very special friend that was just a little to long to be romantic. Our tired feet, thirsty throats and bellies yearning for something delicious, could not be more pleased by what the Caribbean Gods had in store for us. Every thing we needed at the right time.

The moment you walk through the doors of the Rockhouse restaurant your eyes are being treated to some of the most amazing views you can imagine. Ask for a table at the edge of the cliffs, the perfect place to stare at the incredibly clear and blue ocean and…. when you happen to arrive around 6 pm prepare yourself for an absolutely stunning sunset. Needless to say that as far as romance goes, this is the place to be!

All cultures that have come to the Jamaican shores have brought their culinary influences and ingredients with them. The native Arawak Amerindians, the Chinese, the Spanish, the English and the Indians and of course the Rastafarians, who promote the consumption of vegetarian and natural foods, make the Jamaican food scene without a doubt the richest in the Caribbean. The menu of the Rockhouse restaurant reflects this rich culinary heritage.

After a short while one becomes one with the restaurants wonderful ambience. The sound of the waves slapping against the rocks below, the lights below the surface of the intense blue water, the tiki torch illumination surrounding the terrace and the soft ever-chilling reggae music, puts you into a seductive mood and makes you realize that you arrived in a just another piece of Caribbean heaven.

And then there is Rocky, the big turtle that made this piece of the Negril bay its home. Every night he shows himself, much to the delight of the restaurant guest. Some stay in the pertaining Rock House hotel, another gem, worthy of its own fabulous tale of unsurpassable romance along west coast of Jamaica.
