Calle 17 and 190 Siboney, Playa, Ciudad de la Habana
The name El Palenque finds its origin during the slavery era in Cuba. Many slaves escaped (cimarrones) to remote areas where they could not easily been found and constructed shelters, or Palenque’s, from where they started their new lives. People with children will love the kid-friendly and semi open restaurant (with very clean bathrooms) located 25 minutes by car or taxi from Old Havana. The menu is pretty extensive with both Cuban food and pizza’s on the menu. Although the food lost a little of its magic El Palenque still offers value with most entrees priced around 5 CUC. The quarter or half fried chicken with rice and fries are an especially good deal at 1.50 / 2.90 CUC. For the children there is an area with some arcade machines and a carrousel. Best to visit the restaurant when it does not rain.
