My partner, myself and our 3 year old son have just returned from 2 weeks staying All Inclusive at the Flamboyant Hotel on Grand Anse Beach. We usually do a lot of research on our accomodation, but found very few reviews on this hotel. Our fingers were crossed!!
We booked online with Virgin Holidays, and flew to Grenada (via Tobago) with Virgin Atlantic. The Virgin crew were great, and helped keep our son from getting bored on the 1 hour stop-over in Tobago (you are not allowed to leave the plane). I have flown with Virgin before, and they are by far, the best airline I have ever flown with.
On arrival in Grenada we were taken the short distance to the Flamboyant Hotel. The hotel has the prime position on Grand Anse beach, set up on the hill side over looking the whole bay, and towards St Georges. Our check-in was quick, and we were helped to our room. We had paid an extra £200 for a 1 bedroom deluxe, but when we got to our room, we found we had 2 standard rooms with interconnecting doors. The rooms were a little tired in decor, the airconditioning in one room didn't work, and one of the toilets leaked. BUT, the rooms were quite large, spotlessly clean and had every amenity you needed (including hairdryers), and the view was simply breathtaking. They have a fully stocked mini-bar, but even all inclusive, you are still charged for using any of the mini-bar contents. We weren't bothered too much about the rooms, but if we had known what we were going to get, I doubt we would have paid the extra. One standard room would have been sufficient for us. Speaking to a couple that did have a 1 bedroom deluxe, they were very happy with theirs.
The first thing about this hotel is the steps! Not suitable for those with mobility problems but they certainly keep you fit and did not cause us any problems.
The pool was cleaned everyday, and very rarely used by guests and our son loved it. The Owl bar overlooks the beach, and served drinks and cocktails all day. There is an extra charge for some drinks for all inclusive guests, but we were told before hand that premium drinks have an extra charge, so no surprises there. The restaurant was lovely, again overlooking the beach, and sometimes you could dine at the beachside terrace, next to the bar.
The food served was good. Breakfast consisted of fruits, cereals, bacon, sausages and other things I didn't have the stomach to try! You could have your eggs/omlettes cooked fresh for you if you wanted. Lunch was either a buffet, or from a pretty extensive menu. Dinner was again either buffet or from an a la carte menu, the dinner quality varied through the holiday. The buffet was either really good, or OK but the food served from the a la carte menu was always delicious and presentation was fantastic. Again, there is an extra charge for things like steak and lobster, but if you don't want to pay extra, don't have it!
The beach was lovely, and the vendors that come and try to sell you their goods were friendly and did not hassle you once you had said "no thanks". This is their only way of earning a living for some, so try to appreciate the effort some go to making their products. £1 sterling equals $5 EC dollars and you can pick up some lovely jewellery for next to nothing, nothing much to you can mean a whole lot to them.
On the whole, this hotel is rated 3 star, which I think is the right rating for it. The hotel is spotlessly clean and tidy. Some decor is a little tired, but please don't let that put you off. Don't go expecting 5 star luxury, but do go expecting the Flamboyant staff to treat you so well, you'd think you were family! Their position on the beach and their staff are their greatest asset by far, they always have happy smiling faces greeting you. I would recommend this hotel, and I certainly would visit again. Grenada is a beautiful place and needs people like us to visit it and appreciate it for what it is, the jewel of the caribbean.
