Arrival: Jan 09
A large resort with a nice pond, wildlife. A bit of a drive from town but very quiet for the most part.
Taxis or buses are available just check the prices before you get in We found the bus (van) will charge anywhere from 2.50 EC to 10EC pp depending on the driver into Grand Anse more to St Georges

Rooms were large and well maintained, Bright they had a nice size safe in the room to store your valuables. A small fridge, lot of storage for clothes, TV & A/C If you have mobility issues take a beach front room the sea view rooms have many stairs to reach them & no elevators

Restaurants and Bars:
We took the All inclusive package which was good because prices for eating out in Grenada is very expensive. They had a good variety of dishes They have a strange set up for dinner you must make a reservation for 1st or 2nd seating sure to do this for the whole week when you arrive They had a nice buffet area screened in also a buffet at the pool area for lunch & occasional dinner They have a couple of bars and serve afternoon tea in the lounge with little sandwiches, cookies & scones

the grounds we well kept the beach is not wide but long & open to all so you get the beach vendors every day, the pool area is separate so if you want to avoid the vendors just head up there

Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel:
Every evening they had some local music group (except Sunday)they were very good. Tennis court on the property, water sports.
we took a tour of the island which was very good
If you like fish go to "Fish Friday" at the top of the island it is a mix of locals & tourists

Other Comments:
We took the bus into Grand Anse a few times there is a supermarket there, banks, coffee shops and a short walk to the beach.
St Georges is a busy place lots of shops & restaurants but can run you a pretty penny for some meals
Overall it is very nice place to visit.
You can drink the tap water without problems

My wife and I returned a week ago from our first ever visit to Grenada and the Rex resort in St. Georges. It was a absolutly wonderful week. The resort was very much to our liking, even though we mainly stay at adults only resorts. We flew with AC Vacations and although we had a few issues with the flight from YYX to YYC I'll not go into that as its NOT the resorts issue

Check-in; Smooth. No major problems. As there were only a few guests checking in it went smooth
What can I say. We upgraded at the resort to a beachfront from Hillside and are so glad we did. What a view every morning. Sunsets every evening. Waves lulling you asleep each nice. Maids did a fabulous job of keeping the room spotless
Beach; Stuuning, even though in most spots you have to cross a shelp of rock to get into the ocean. It can be tricky at times if your not careful. The ocean was quite rough while we were there. We were told this is normal for this time of year. If you venture to the other beach it is less rocky but busier. It was very hot while we were there. Thank goodness for the wind, it helped keep you cool. As the resort was less than 50% full there was NO problem getting a chair
Food; It was quite good. I think if you were there for more than a week it could become repeticious, but as we were only a week we enjoyed the different selection at the buffet nightly. The resort has only 3 resturants. The Cinammon, which is the main buffet for breakfast and dinner. At breakfast you must reserve your time for your evening dinner. Twice weekly they move the dinner buffet to Spicers Bistro at the pool. Nice change of pace. Men are REQUIRED to wear long pants and collared shirts for dinner, except at Spicers where its casual. Spicers Bistro is the lunch buffet. Nice selection of items including hamburgers and sandwiches, as well as hot meals. There is tea in the afternoon at 4 pm with finger foods, coffee, tea, etc. There is a al a carte but you must pay for this one. Its a Oreintal/Thai place. Never went
Entertainment; There is NO animation team here. There is a show each night except Sunday. Normally its local musicians and band. Its a nice change
Staff; What can one say about these people. They are truly what makes the Rex what it is. There is NOT a staff member that doesn't offer a hello to each guest as you pass by. Tips are welcome if you feel someone has done a exception service for you, but are certainly NOT expected
Tours; We did one with our provider. It was called the Spice island tour. It was pretty good, event though the rep told us things we would see but never did. Next time I'd do local. Never ventured into St. Georges but will next time. Heard it was well worth the effort.
Thats pretty much it boys and girls. Remember the Rex is a family resort. Clientel is mainly British. We had a fabulous vacation in Grenada. Thanks to all who made it so. We definetaly will be back. Any questions please ask

Room Block:

We got there safely, flight was 5 and 1/2 hours.........
5 Minute ride to the resort, greeted with a glass of rum punch and a lot of big smiles.

We had requested a ground level walk out after paying to upgrade to beachfront. There were none available when we arrived so we spent 2 days on the second floor, not much of a view, 3rd would have been much better.....we moved to the walkout and it was better than all good :).

The rooms are clean, the a.c. worked fine, the washroom was newer, the mini fridge worked fine.
The furniture is a little dated and there were small ants here and there. The t.v. was made in the 1980's and the hair dryer also. The bed was very firm and the sliding door was hard to open and close, my fiancé ripped a nail off.
We were in the Caribbean not Las Vegas and that was just fine!

We felt we got what paid for.

Restaurants and Bars:
There were 2 restaurants included and a "voucher" for the third.
The 2 included were buffet, cinnamon in the main building and beside the pool at the beach.
We usually sat ourselves, more than a few times found our own cutlery, napkins etc. We were asked if we would like a drink from the bar about 30% of the time. The staff was apparently raided by Sandals in December, it really should not take 3 months to train new staff.
Hamburgers and fries every day for lunch, the layout of the restaurant and a lack of training/ supervision caused serious issues with being served.

Perhaps this is nitpicking to point this out, but to be fair, this was the one fault that got tiresome to deal with.

The lobby bar was nice but usually backed up as was the pool bar, the bar on the beach is mixed drinks and beer only, no blended drinks. A sign showing the times the bars are open would go a long way as staff were not usually available to ask.
The alcohol is typical, cold beer on tap and bottle. The ice and tap water are totally safe, no issues at all.

The highlight of this resort is the beach, truly amazing! There were always chairs available, quiet spots in and out of the sun and the view of St.George and the sunsets was totally breathtaking.
Snorkeling off the beach is okay, not lots to see but the coral provides a natural breakwater that keeps the beach from eroding.

The grounds were truely beautiful, the staff worked very hard to clean and maintain.

Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel:
We grabbed a cab into St George on our own and walked the town Saturday morning when the open air market opened. Went up the hill and toured Fort George, met many very nice people who shared history and helped with directions.

We also did a half day trip in a private cab, went up to Annadale Falls and saw the Island from south west to north east, got a great deal from Charmaine at the Rex (Insight Tours).

The people of Grenada are its greatest resource, we have never felt more welcomed or safe anywhere in the Caribbean.

We also went to the underwater statue park, fun trip with the Carib Cats set up by Charmaine as well.
We avoided booking trips from the beach vendors.

Other Comments:
The Grenadian is a beautiful resort that has a few quirks that can be easily remedied with attention to detail. The people and the beauty of Grenada made this the best trip we have enjoyed to date and we will be returning to Grenada some day !
