Hotel E Velasco Information

The small Hotel Velasco built in 1902 by Luis Zorrilla Velasco offers a friendly atmosphere with a distinctive and personal touch in a quiet city with enough sights to keep you amused for a few days. The main historical sites are relics of 19th Century Cuban architecture, including the Sauto Theatre, the old City Hall and the Church of San Pedro de Versailles. The interior of Hotel Velasco, including its 17 comfortable air-conditioned rooms, reflects the time during which the hotel was built.

As we wanted a room with a window we arranged an upgrade to a junior suite.
The hotel has been totally refurbished and is very beautiful. Our suite was fabulous and everything worked, the shower, wc, hairdryer etc.
The staff was courteous and helpful. We received a welcome cocktail on arrival. The breakfast was very good. We stayed for three nights and the only complaint we had was that despite paying for a junior suite for three nights we were asked to pay extra for an additional cup of coffee at breakfast.
Visitors who stay in the junior suites at the front of the hotel should be aware that there is noisy traffic outside the hotel throughout the day, although this abates in the evening

Stayed recently at the Velasco Hotel in Matanzas.
A well kept Colonial style hotel. Only seventeen rooms but very airy & spacious. Nice small lobby bar.
I have traveled the world but visiting the Velasco was the first time, when checking in my friend & I was given a tropical cocktail.
Had a small evening meal & breakfast at the hotel which where very good.
The staff was very friendly & pleasant, far better than is common in this part of the world.
If you have the chance stay, you will not be disappointed.

I have been to Cuba many times over the last 25 years and this is possibly the best hotel I have stayed in. It is historic, the town is a true Cuban experience as compared to an all-inclusive resort. All of the staff, from the top manager to waiters, chef's and everyone else to numereous to mention are very professional. The suites are large overlooking the town square. The meals are 5 star and everyone treats you very well.

My husband and I stayed at the Velasco for two days in April. We both enjoyed the friendly staff. The food was amazing. They serve you the best cappacino decorated with chocolate in the mornings. The breakfast package with the room was great. The rooms are very comfortable. They also have toiletries in the bathroom for those that forget the odd item. The staff are all very freindly and proffessional. The staff are all great. We will stay again next year for one or two days. I would have given the hotel a 5 if they had a swimming pool.

Room Number:

Arrival:
April 28th, 2011

Rooms:
Very clean and comfortable

Restaurants and Bars:
The restaurant was open and airy the food was fantastic. The lobster dinner was perfect.
My husband has also declared that they made him the best mohito he has ever had in Cuba.

Beach/Pools/Grounds:
The hotel has no beach or pool. It is located in the heart of Montanza across from one of the main parks.
It is a very old hotel that was totally renovated and reopened October or November 2010.

Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel:
We visited friends as that was the reason we picked this hotel

Other Comments:
I would reccomend this hotel to anyone that would love to relax and see a very old city and lovely culture. The staff is more then happy to show you their city. There are no langauge barriers as the majority of the staff speak perfect english for those of us that cannot speak Spanish.

We would like to thank everyone in the Hotel Velasco for such excellent service during our visit to Cuba. The hotel has been beautifully renovated and is everything you would expect and more.
The cool airy feel to the lobby and bar is very inviting and the barman, Orlando, makes the best Daqaries ive ever tasted. The beers were served in little mini ice buckets to keep them cool, perfect when it 30c outside !
The rooms were large and cool with wooden shutters which kept out the noise from the busy street below the balcony, which was wonderful for people watching.
The menu in the restaurant was very good with a large selection to choose from and a good range of wine. Total came to approx £30 pp but that did include several bottles of wine. beer and soft drinks.

Rooms:
Large, well equiped , lovely modern bathroom

Restaurants and Bars:
Very good food, well presented, as good as any restaurant you would find in London and silver service was second to none.

Beach/Pools/Grounds:
Nice terrace, looking over rooftops of Matanzas

Other Comments:
Returning in November
