Palacio O´Farrill Information

Perhaps one of the main charms of Hotel Palacio O'Farrill is the neoclassical beauty of what was the residence of don José Ricardo O'Farrill y O'Daly, a wealthy merchant from the Irish county of Longford. O'Farrill was involved in the slave trade and owner of sugar mills and arrived in Havana in 1715 and founded one of the wealthiest families of the colonial era.

Too expensive considering facilities, food and service. Theoretically well located, near to La Habana vieja (downtown) but the corner in which hotel is placed is full of annoying people (during all both day and night)

Room Number:
207

Arrival:
Ok

Rooms:
Too dark, and dirty

Restaurants and Bars:
Low food quality

"When is a non-smoking room a non-smoking room?"

Booked 1 night at this hotel as part of a week at Breezes Jibacoa. Did extensive research to find a hotel offering non-smoking rooms as we both have asthma. Hotel is in one of the rougher sections of Old Havana. Very nice architecturally, but the minute you walk in the entrance the smell of stale smoke hits you. Room was quite large with 3 single beds and 3 ashtrays. When I questioned the bellman, was told "this is Havana, everyone smokes." They tried to move us to a room with no windows, but by this time the lungs were starting to rebel. Decided to return to Jibacoa. When I went back to the front desk to cancel the reservation, they offered to upgrade us to the 5 star Hotel Saratoga at no additional cost, plus arrange for the transfer by cab at their expense. While they have not yet mastered the art of truth-in-advertising, you have to give them full marks for customer service.

buona posizione, buon albergo ma davvero troppo rumoroso. le camere migliori affacciano su una calle molto popolare, rumorosa e sporca. per il resto è un buon hotel, in stile coloniale con un bel patio e camere emormi.

A great hotel well located in Old Havana. Easy access to the main tourist sites, the Malecon, and life of the city. Located in an old mansion, it has lots of old world charm with good amenities. Breakfast included was very good as were the services of all the staff. A good place to locate your stay in Havana.

When I arrived at the hotel I was amazed at the awesome museum like architecture of the hotel and was keen to stay in a building with such history. The location is perfect for the old town. The staff are friendly and helpful. My room was on the street side and quite noisy, the mattresses are very thin and slightly unconfortable. Although the rooms are clean, beware of the small black bettles that infest the room. The food was disappointing but a common problem in most restaurants I visited.

We booked and payed 2 rooms for 3 persons. They give us only one for 3. The service was not very well and the hotel is not in the center of the town. Too expensive for a poor service.

The building, a former sugar merchant's house, is stunning; the location in Vieja is excellent; our room was largely fine (although the enamel on the bath was cracked in several places and there were uncomfortable plastic mattress protectors on the bed underneath otherwise decent sheets). Most visitors seem to be put on the third floor, which is pleasant enough, though the grand living quarters are on the second floor. Our view was over the top of neighbouring houses, which is to be expected in this central location.
Staff. We came across one lovely, very helpful receptionist. The other one, Mariela, is aggressive and rude, and, frankly, seemed to us to be more keen on pocketing a few extra CUCs than providing a service. It was not just with us: we witnessed similar behaviour to an Austrian man who was trying to book an extra night. She basically told him he didn't have time to book online, so pack up and get out of your room now.
When disgusted by her behaviour, we asked to speak to a manager, she shoved a leaflet and a business card in front of us, told us she didn't understand my Spanish, and said write your comments on the website.
That said, when I tracked down the hotel manager who was in the building, she was charming, very helpful and, I hope, will soon deal with this problematic member of staff.
Breakfast. Why oh why do these hotels insist on serving 'American coffee' which is more like dishwater than coffee and decline you an expresso on the menu when they cost a mere 1 national peso just round the corner (there are 24/25 national pesos to a single CUC)?

Bel hôtel, très bien situé mais rue très très bruyante dès l'aube... Les chambres sont belles, un peu sombre. Les petits déjeuners très moyens. Mes photos sont ici : http://www.lahavane.net/ofarill.html

Big rooms, surprisingly not as noisy as expected, bearing in mind its tightly-populated district, reasonable value on agency rate, restaurant the main let-down, and cheeky bell-boy implying that a ten dollar tip would be appreciated! The location, on the edge of Havana's old town, is the real attraction. The Malecon is within walking distance, as are many plazas and decent restaurants. WiFi would be a definite plus - one PC with scratch card codes for internet is an unnecessarily antiquated system, even bearing in mind the limits of connectivity in Cuba.

Rooms:
Spacious, reasonably clean, AC worked all right, safe in room, sense of privacy

Restaurants and Bars:
Disappointing

Other Comments:
Staff a little on the officious side, but nothing too outrageous!
