Telegrafo Information

Hotel Telégrafo dates back to 1860. At that time, it was located on Amistad Street. In around 1888, it was moved to its final location on the populated corner of Prado and Neptuno. Completely rebuilt in 1911, it was considered by the press in the day to be the city's most modern hotel in addition to ranking among the eleven best in Latin America.

The hotel is very confortable, clean and well located for visiting the city but. Attention!!! At the reception in the night between august 24/25 there was a bad person, my visa was locked (American company) and she suggested us to sell our valuable objects in the street to pay room's phone bill. She didn't give us any reasonable solution, no called embassy, no called tourist representation, she didn't accept any gages! She only menaced to call immigration police!!! Luckily two tourists helped us paying our bill.
UNFORGETTABLE!!!!!

Arrival:
We were a group of four with quite a few pieces of luggage, there were no porters to assist as we were told that he was on a break. The receptionist looked bored and very unwelcoming

Rooms:
The rooms were quite spacious but unfortunately very musty smelling. The shower curtain was falling off the rail, was old and dirty.

Restaurants and Bars:

Thankfully we were on a bed and breakfast basis as the restaurant did not appear to cater for for those who did not eat red meat /pork. We struggled to get hot water for our tea. The selection was very limited

Beach/Pools/Grounds:

There was none

"Moved to another hotel"

Having read reviews about hotels in Cuba I had some concern that we would be moved to another hotel as apparently this practice isn't uncommon. I actually went into the hotel 2 weeks earlier (upon my arrival to Havana) to check my booking was in place with them for my last night in Cuba.

From the outside and reception the hotel looks lovely but alas that is all I got to see. Upon trying to check in I was informed that the hotel has no water and may have to close the next day. This wouldn't have seemed suspicion had I not already had previous concerns about being moved to another hotel.

To be fair the hotel did offer to provide us with a taxi to take us to the other hotel (which wasn't necessary as we had a car) and although slightly inferior (in booking price) was pleasant enough.

There may have been a genuine water problem but none the less it is slightly frustrating not getting the hotel you have carefully chosen and confirmed well in advance.

In the hotel there is a bar which is quite stuffy so that needs air con to improve it, good choice of things in the bar but breakfast needs more choice. rooms are average but the cleaning maid does an excellent job. Nice bathrooms. i would recommend it to people looking for a base close to the sights of havana vieja this hotel is only yards away from the capitolio and is a few streets away from most of the rest. a few improvements though... will the person on the door always be standing there as sometimes he was and sometimes he wasn't, and the money exchange at reception was not at government rates (was not a cadeca) cheaper internet access

I stayed at this hotel in June 2008. It is very near the downtown, has good services and an excellent breakfast. However, the walls need betteer upkeep. There are cracks near the point of contact with the floor and some walls need cleaning and a new paint job. These details aside, I recommend it.

We just spent 5 nights in Havana at the Telegrafo, and I would not particularly recommend it. We felt that the room rates were far too high for the condition of the hotel. I would have much preferred to have stayed the the Hotel Parque Central or the Saratoga which are both close by. We ended up hanging out in the lobby of the Parque Central quite a bit - it is beautiful and they have wifi. The Telegrafo just has a computer in its rather oddly decorated the lobby, and it always seems to be in use. The outside of the hotel is freshly painted, but inside things are tired. The floor or the elevator is spongy, and the carpets in the hallways are worn and stained.

Room Number:
205

Arrival:
Check in was uneventful, but we were not offered any assistance getting our luggage up to the room.

Rooms:
The room was very clean and in good condition. We booked a room overlooking the interior courtyard because we had read that it could be noisy having a room overlooking the street. While the room WAS quiet, we found it stuffy (the interior courtyard is covered.) Also, during the first few days it seemed like we were getting an exhaust smell in our room. I mentioned it at the front desk, and they must have done something because I didn't notice it after that.

Restaurants and Bars:
We did not enjoy the buffet breakfasts that were included in the room price. Once you check in with the person at the door to give your room number, you are on your own. Noone gives you any orientation or even offers you a cup of coffee - you have to find it yourself. It appeared that the food in the buffet was put out first thing in the morning and never refreshed. Some mornings it was very picked over, and there were flies flying around the fruit. One day we witnessed the man cooking the eggs coughing into his hands and then continuing cooking. A few minutes later he was over at the bread table with his hands on a French loaf slicing off a piece.

1.The hotel is very central situated.
2.The rooms are very clean.
3.Taking a bath cannot be done, no bath plugs.
4.Shaving is difficult, face hard to see because of bad lighting in the bathroom.
5.The bed sheets are clean, but too small to cover the mantras.
6.Breakfast is Sovjetstyle: Who wants cold spaghetti or left-over beans? Fruit however is okay.
7.Half of staff is not friendly.
A fat cook, who's task it is to fry eggs is too lazy to stand on his feet. He keeps talking to the lady musicians, while guests are waiting.

I stayed at this hotel for five days in december 2006.

The best is the breakfast, excellent. The rooms are confortable, mine had a balcony to Central Park, quite funny.

If I go again to Havana, I'll repeat this hotel.
