Loved villa Maguana for the location and the nice rooms. The service however is nothing what you could expect from a hotel. One guy is responsibe for reception and serving food, preparing drinks, etc. One maid cleans all the rooms, kitchen, etc and there is one security guy. With a full house, 32 persons, they want to know, what you would like to eat in the evening round lunch time, so that they can start preparing in kitchen (oh yes, one cook). Portions are small and menu very limited. Food OK, nothing special.
The hotel lacks the equipment, like snorkling gear, or anything else which could make your stay at beach more fun.
However, compared to other gaviota hotels we stayed at, the rooms were great and we enjoyed our stay. Regarding cuban hotel standards, this place is quite exceptional if you look at the size and the secludeness.

Very nice place to be in contact with nature and the sea. People who live around are very nice and friendly

Rooms:
I booked two rooms for myself and family.
Rooms are spotless, very clean, hot water and TV satellite dish
Staff is very friendly and they are always there to help you

Restaurants and Bars:
Included breakfast is not the best but you can have what you need to help you through the day and enjoy the sunshine
I did not have any lunch in the hotel as the locals seem to offer much better lunch at a better price

Beach/Pools/Grounds:
The beach is lovely all surrounded by the abundance of tropical palm and coconut tree, even better if it in the summer time

Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel:
There is not activities unless you like swimming.
Once it gets dark, there is not show or music.
It is a very quiet place at night

Other Comments:
Driving up to the place the road is not in very good condition so be careful, it is actually a bumpy country side road

The person up above who complains about the safe and "no atmosphere?" I suggest this person get on a floating hotel on a cruise ship or stick to all inclusive hotels in Mexico as you wouldn't know what to do when you find peace, tranquility and more than a bit of heaven. It is beyond lovely. The room was adequate. We were lucky and got the first floor overlooking the beach. You open your windows and let the cool breezes caress you to sleep with the sound of the surf. The food is not amazing, but not shabby either. Besides one only needs breakfast here and then off to explore to return later and swim in your own private beach. Yes, the public beach offers more people but if your a romantic and like your own thing. The staff were DELIGHTFUL and sweet. Yes we speak SPanish and DONT COMPLAIN and recognize we are travelling in a country besotted by scarcity and lack of food and other essentials. So disregard the spoilt little brats above and let the Robinson Caruso get into your skin and learn how one lives without all the stupid creature comforts in all the world's redundant resorts. GET OVER IT. YOU"RE IN CUBA! LEARN TO BE LIKE A LOCAL with a great attitude and a sweet expression of gratitude on your face you will get plenty more bang for your buck!

cant fault the location. Amazing as long as dont stick to the private beach. Next door beach is where you will meet the locals & start your holiday. Order your meal from the locals who will ask you what time you want your meal served, fresh fish caught that day with rice & salad & deep fried casava served under the coconut tree's. Food at hotel not good & staff not representative of the cubam people at all. They really not very nice & hard to know why, must be bad managers who don't treat them very well. The only thing we could think off as cubans lovely people.

As this was our most expensive stay in Cuba we were looking forward to some luxury. The safe didn't work and there was no mini bar in the room and it was very dark. The food was mediocre and not everything was available. There was absolutely no atmosphere and the staff were very sombre but polite.
However if you go onto the public beach it was a totally different experience where the locals made you feel very welcome. It ended up as a lovely stay and we will definitely return perhaps staying in nearby Baracoa and bussing it in. (well worth the experience just for that)
