First let me say that we've been to quite a few resorts over the years probably two or three trips a years over the last 7or8 years and this was the biggest disappointment of all. There was 12 of travelling together and for 2 couples their first trip like this.
Your Arrival
Arrival went smoothly even though no one meet us off of the bus.We travel often so we knew what to do.
Rooms
The rooms where beautiful with everyone getting oceanview. The cleaning crew was very good and friendly.
Restaurants and Bars
Here's where are problem's began. My husband got food poisoning the first day there and was very sick for two days. The hotel manager said it wasn't the hotel it was from the airplane food but offered to send the nurse up to check on him for $150. I was also sick a few days later vomiting but not as bad as him. We tried to be very carful after that but we found that the food wasn't kept as hot as it should have been. Even food brought out from the kitchen wasn't hot at the buffet. The food at the ala cartes was much better.
Beach/Pools/Grounds
The pool was huge and beautiful lots of shade if you wanted it. We were disappointed in the beach as there really isn't one unless you went over the sunset cove.
Other Comments
Over all we had a pretty good holiday as there was 12 of us. Some of the couples did zip lining and loved it. We did a trip to DunnRiver Falls which was great and a trip over to Negril Beach which was beautiful. The Jamaican's are friendly and helpful. Wouldn't take my teenagers to Jamaica because every where you go people are trying to sell drugs.
Book in advance? No room on arrival.

The Grand Palladium overbooked its hotel by at least 300 rooms for the Presidents Week (February 12 - 21). Our trip had been booked, confirmed and PAID FOR months in advance and two days before we were scheduled to leave, Travelocity called to notify us that we could not stay at the Grand Palladium. No one from the hotel ever contacted us and not so much as a form letter of apology was issued on their behalf. We met countless other people in the same situation including a wedding party who was forced to relocate without notice. Despicable.

What was supposed to be a relaxing time away was a maddening week of trying to deal with Travelocity and our new hotel site to secure a comparable package that was purchased month before. The hotel should be ashamed that they assumed no responsibility whatsoever, despite happily accepting our $3400 prepayment. You should only consider booking here if you have thousands of dollars to throw away.
Your Arrival
We heard countless stories of other people who were turned away.

We were one the 400 rooms that were NOT overbooked for President's Week. I traveled with my husband and 11 year old daughter. We travel about 3 times a year to Mexico and the Caribbean.
Your Arrival
The trip from the airport takes about 35 minutes. We arrived around 3 PM and received our room right away. We received welcome drinks in the beautiful lobby.
Rooms
We had booked a one bedroom suite. The rooms are spacious and beautiful. Just don't go out on the balcony. Our room faced a very busy and noisy road. There were only 2 towels for 3 people. One remote to be shared by 2 televisions (which were fuzzy at best) and the safe was broke. We had an ironing board, but no iron.
Restaurants and Bars
There was at least a one hour wait for all of the a la carte restaurants. Service was attentive, but very slow. The food was mediocre to ok. My favorites were the Asian and Indian. The buffet seating took about 10-15 minutes. Even when there were many empty tables. The service was very poor. Most mornings it was difficult to get coffee. They were either out of coffee or coffee cups. The bar at the pool was always packed and it was difficult to get a drink.
Beach/Pools/Grounds
The grounds are beautiful. The pool is huge, but poorly planned out. All the shade huts are on one side. The bathroom, towels and bar are on the other side and it is quite a walk. The beaches are probably the worst I have seen. If you are looking for a great beach, you won't find it here.
Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel
We did not go on any trips because we have been to Jamaica before. There is great scuba diving provided at an extra cost by Scuba Caribe.
Other Comments
My recommendation is to avoid this hotel. The service is very poor and hotel management is rude. Spend your money elsewhere.

Although we had been at this hotel in November and loved it, we had problems when we rebooked for Feb. We decided to celebrate our 25th anniversary adn go for the couples bungalow. Package booked thru Expedia. Confirmations on hotel received and final confirmation on entire trip rec'd on Wed (2/10). On Thursday we rec'd a phone call indicating hotel had overbooked and to call them immediately. Expedia's loding department indicated hotel booked (first count) 70 guest, provided ONE choice of which we denied because we wanted what we paid for. Bottom line entire 25th anniversary trip was cancelled to the neglect of this hotel and Expedia
Best time ever, just booked it again.

I can't believe these people writing negative reviews stayed at the same resort as us, because we thought it was so great we just booked it again last night. We are going again for March Break. Same price as last year. $4200 family of four, direct flight Northwest Airlines. Through Expedia.
Your Arrival
We got picked up by private transfer service. Clives travel. $180 return trip. A little pricey, but you have the car all to yourselves, no stopping to drop anyone off, cold beers waiting for you, and a driver that seconds as a tour guide. He took us to get more Red Stripes and coconut drinks and coconut candy. Trip took 40 min. from the airport. Interesting views made it seem like 5 minutes.
Rooms
Stunning rooms and views. Emailed a week prior requesting oceanview, 3rd floor and need the pool. Got all three.
Restaurants and Bars
Best food out of any resort. I mean buffet is buffet, but the a la carte restaurants were top notch.Great food, great service. Little bit of a wait, but your on vacation.
Beach/Pools/Grounds
Pool beautiful and large. Lots to do around the pool. Played lots of beach volleyball, and of course the swim-up bar.Nice beaches, especially sunset where you can snorkel, paddle boat, and eat from a beach grill.
Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel
Evening entertainment is really the only thing that is a little average. Although the Infinity bar upstairs always had a local live band, which we enjoyed, and the bartenders were quite entertaining. Also the steel drum show was really good.
Other Comments
We have been to Rui, Sandals, etc. and this was our favourite. That is why we are pumped to return. I thinking it has only gotten better, as we went very early after opening. If your not a major complainer, you'll love it.

August 16 2009

I would like to say that we had enjoyed Palladium Resorts up until now, having stayed previously at three other Grand Palladium Resorts in the past two years. We have a large family (2 adults and 5 kids - all
teenagers)

Rooms
Very nice - large, upscale. Though we did have a leaky bathroom faucet all week (they never got around to fixing it) and were without hot water for two days. Minor inconveniences...

Restaurants and Bars
Large restaurants, good food, above average service. Bars were adequate and bartenders/wait staff were above average.

Beach/Pools/Grounds
BIG PROBLEM !!!!!!! Our 18 year old son cut his hand on the side wall of the pool where there were pool tiles missing. His cut bled profusely and required seven stitches to close. There are tens of thousands of missing pool tiles in all three main pools. You can push them along the bottom of the pool on your way. The beach activity staff told us that someone gets cut in the pool every day! The nurse at the clinic told us that a man the previous week cut his foot for seventeen, that's right seventeen, stitches. Apparently, the resort was in such a hurry to meet their opening day deadline that they filled the pools up too quickly after the tiles were cemented in place. This is a huge safety issue. I would not recommend families with young children holiday at this resort.

Activities and activity
staff were A1. We also did a 1/2 day trip to Negril, ending up at Rick's Cafe watching the cliff divers. In addition to that we did a 1 and 1/2 hour snorkeling trip just off the resort that was nice, though there weren't too many colorful fish and the coral was bland.

Other Comments
The resort did not come through with any acceptable compensation for my son/family. Our son went without volleyball and scuba diving the entire week and swimming for the first 3/4 of the week. Very poor customer service. We were very disappointed by the treatment we received by the resort. We had gone there as huge fans of Palladium Resorts.
There is a palpable rift existing between the Spanish upper management and the native Jamaican lower management and workers. We, unfortunately, were caught in the middle of this rift.

Grand Palladium Jamaica   David & Janet~ Quispamsis, NB

June 2009

Arrival: April 2009

We had an eventful week at The Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton in Jamaica from April 4 to 11, 2008.  Janet and I are experienced travelers to resorts in Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico.  We were joined by some friends from Newfoundland and this was our first trip to Jamaica. We booked our vacation in mid January and were very disappointed to find out that most people paid significantly less than we did for the same vacation.  We were particularly annoyed by the fact that one couple paid 40% less than we did and they had first class seats on the flight. We booked and flew from Halifax NS with Air Transat.  We were very disappointed with the service on the flights and the seats were extremely uncomfortable.  In addition, the baggage weight allowance was insufficient and we were charged extra at check in.  Our friends from Newfoundland ended up paying $230 in excess baggage charges!  I stated in an earlier review that Air Canada could learn from the charter operators.  I now take that back because Air Transat is now worse than Air Canada ever was!

We arrived pretty much on time around 9 pm in Montego Bay.  There was a bit of a hiccup at the airport with the buses so we had a cold beer and a rum punch while things got sorted out.  The bus ride to the resort was about 45 minutes and check in went pretty quick.  Then we had a second hiccup as the bellman loaded our bags onto the trolley, then raced away to our rooms without hooking up the trolley to the car.  No Problem Mon!!!.

We were assigned room 3324 which was absolutely beautiful.  We had a great view of Sunset Cove beach and the Villa was located right beside the Adult’s pool and bar.  We got a bottle of rum and a fruit basket as a welcoming gift. Our room was large, and had a king sized bed.  There were plenty of pillows, but we found the bed to be a little hard.  We had a robes and slippers for use while in our room.  The bathroom had a stand up shower and a separate Jacuzzi tub. Facecloths and toiletries were provided initially, but were not replenished.  We brought facecloths with us. The mini bar fridge in the room was stocked daily with water, juices, soft drinks and beer. There was a coffee maker provided with coffee, whitener, and sugar.  We had a wall mounted flat screen TV with a good selection of satellite channels. The room safe was provided free of charge.  However there was no clock radio in the room, we brought one with us.

We found out pretty quickly that the resort was only about 30% occupied.  It was probably a good thing because a few little things fell through the cracks for us so we can only imagine what it would have been like had the resort been full.  However, we will give them the benefit of the doubt as the resort opened only a year ago. Our room was not made up the first two days when we went back to the room for our late afternoon siesta and to get ready for supper.  A call to the front desk fixed that.  Other than that, there were no complaints as there were always clean towels available when we needed them.  We usually left a US$1 tip for the maid each day.

The food was very good at the Grand Palladium.  However, not all the restaurants were open every night due to the low occupancy and the resort did not do a good job of communicating this.  We usually went for breakfast at the Negril buffet which was very good.  Lunch was either at the main pool buffet or the snack bar at Sunset Cove.  We had some jerk chicken at Sunset Cove, which is too hot for my taste.  Jerk chicken is simply baked chicken with a very hot jerk sauce.  I tried some then went for the BBQ sauce instead.

The weather was great although it did cloud over a couple of afternoons.  But that was actually a relief as we already had enough sun for the day and it was very hot, over 30 every day.  And it wasn't as windy as other places we've been.  The beach had green flags up most days which I have never seen before when down south.

The resort is relatively new as it opened last June and it is very beautiful to the eye.  It has the biggest pool that I have ever seen.  They have a two storey restaurant/ bar complex overlooking the pool which is just fabulous.  Needless to say, we spend more than a bit of time there.  The Jamaican sunsets are spectacular and the Infinity Bar overlooking the pool was the perfect place to enjoy it.  The beaches weren't all that great as there wasn't a lot of sand but again it was very pleasing to the eye.  One downer was the poor workmanship of the buildings which was evident on closer inspection.  Lots of tiles missing on the pool, very sloppy tile jobs done on the bathrooms and common areas.  The owners must be pissed!!  But it was different being able to speak the same language with the staff.

We took it easy most days, but we took an excursion into Negril to do some shopping.  The country side was very poor, but not as bad as the Dominican Republic.  These folks have electricity and running water that is safe to drink.  We found things to be relatively expensive in Jamaica and couldn't really find any good deals.  And the Jamaicans are very interested in the tips Mon, and they let you know it.  We went to Rick's Cafe in Negril where folks jump from cliffs which are extremely high.  However, they had a place about halfway down from which I managed to jump and then dive from.  I was so proud of myself.  Our friend’s birthday was Thursday and we decorated up a Tiki hut near the adult pool and LeRoy  the bartender made us shots and did chants ....good times!!! But unfortunately we did have some drama.  Our friends rented a jet ski on Friday afternoon and he went airborne and crashed into a wave and broke his back.  We had to get a doctor who gave him a shot for the pain and some pills.

Other than that, we had a great time.  We were all tanned up, but it was  friggin snowing when we got home.   Food was wonderful and nobody got sick except a bad hangover on Monday from drinking all day in the sun on Sunday.  I don't think we'll go back to Jamaica again because it was so expensive and overrated, unless we get a very good deal.

April 2009

Arrival
We came and it all seemed nice. Wou walk in with a nice welcome of drinks and nice staff.

Rooms
The rooms weren't bad. We had two twin beds and a pull out couch(hard as a rock by the way) and the bath room is pretty cool with a nice jaccuzi.

Restaurants and Bars
The resteraunts and bars have the worst service i had ever experienced. They will not seat a big family together(8) and they forget a lot of things when you order. The food on the other hand isn't that bad but it wasn't so great.

Beach/Pools/Grounds
The pool was filthy and dirty and it was falling apart. The beach is very rocky but they have nice boats to rent.

Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel
The activities happen like one every three hours and they arent so great. Half the stuff is broken so nothing really happens around there. The kids will get absoultly bored out of there minds unless they are todlers going to the kids cove.

Other Comments
Honestly i would not reccomend this hotel to anyone because it isn't that great and i've been to much better ones over the years. For a young hotel it is kind of a disgrace.
