I happened upon the Beachside Villas while surfing on-line and decided to take a chance on it. We usually do the large 5* all inclusive resort or cruise. I requested a brochure and received the most wonderful documentation from the owners Yolanda and Telly. The very professional brochure is invaluable in describing excursions, restaurants, grocery stores etc.
Arrival at the villas was very quick and easy since it is right beside the airport (this could be a problem as planes can be noisy for a few moments at take off)it never bothered us. The units are spotless, very bright and cheerful and the view of Simpson Bay from each unit is breathtaking. All the staff that we met were professional and friendly.
We ate in every morning and ate at a restaurant either for a late lunch or dinner. We enjoyed Pineapple Pete's - the menu is varied and resonably priced. One night we tried the take out at LIDO - it is located in the parking lot of a garage, much like a chip stand in Canada but they offer bbq'd ribs, chicken, scalloped potatoes and macaroni pie - excellent food and cheap price. Over the week we ate at other restaurants - all were very good and the prices were the same as in Canada.
We also took one excursion - Rhino Tours which is an inflatable boat with motor that you sit on like a snowmobile - 2 per boat - great fun riding the waves and the snorkling was great.
I would advise that it is necessary to rent a car while on the island in order to purchase groceries and to sightsee if staying at Beachside Villas vs a chain resort - we drove around the whole island with no problem - but when it came to sitting on a beach, we kept saying why sit here with lots of people and pay for a chair and beverage when we have a better view and our own comfortable chairs back at Beachside Villas. So we would get back in the car and return to our "home" away from home. After a swim in the ocean right in front of our villa we would spend time in the pool or take a walk along the beach.
Sint Maarten is truly a beautiful island and I would love to make Beachside Villas a yearly excursion. Thanks to all at Beachside Villas for a wonderful stay and holiday.
