Forget the annoying Time share vultures, those we were expecting!...El cid was the exact opposite of what there web site said. My husband and I were travel with a 7 and 10 year old plus an 80 year old mentally/physically man in a wheelchair. Travel agent assured us she had contactd Sunwing and the Hotel with all our needs, and she did. But what didn't happen was the actual help. We paid an extra $100 to have preferred handicap seating...didnt happen. We were told we would have a handicap room....nope. We were told that the room did indeed come with a fridge and microwave...not even close. We paid over $1200 a person for an All Inclusive and were met with restriction after restriction. Couldnt eat at this bar, but could drink here....couldn't use this swim up bar or that resturant...etc. After the intial check in where everyone welcomed you in broken, but understanble english, there were no english speaking staff members to be found. Wait staff was intolerable of us "Canadians" and made us feel needy. The pictures they post on the Castilla website are NOT the rooms you get! Where these rooms are I'd like to know....are TV was broken, the fan didnt work and the air conditioning was so loud, my husband and I took turns in the night turning it on and off so the kids could sleep....when we had an accident with one of the beds....it took housekeeping 30 minutes to bring towels, when my hudband explained that we needed sheets, as he had requested, they never came back. $6000 to come home for stress than when we left....we will not be returning, and are looking for compensation
Pool was great for the kids and the only reason we gave the resort a "1 flower" rating
"Needs some improvements"

Went for a one week stay at the El Cid Castilla with 3 others-2 rooms. As soon as we checked in the Time Share folks tried to nab us and it continued several times a day when we walked anywhere near the Lobby.I finally blew up and that ended the attacks. They really should be made to wear signs that identify themselves as Time Share salespeople-so many Seniors got sucked in. The hotel itself was clean but the rooms showed wear and tear. They bleach the bath towels but not the faceclothes which are stained and grey. Service is good for the most part and sometimes exceptional. Roberto in the buffett dining room is an absolute joy. The food was iffy and never more than likewarm, Dont bother with the restaurants you have to make reservations for-the Italian one was horrible with surly service and inedible food.We walked out as did 2 other tables.El Patio was much the same-filet mignon was an overdone skirt steak which was mostly gristle and fat.Pasta was undercooked and cold. Sald was wilted etc..We were a table of 6 and not one of us ate our food. Again we walked out.
Beds are on a concrete slab so be prepared for a FIRM sleep. Maid service is hit and miss. Soemtimes we got towels and sometimes we didnt. One thing that angrered many of us was the saving of chairs/cabanas by the pool. People went at 730am and put their towels on chairs so no one else could sit there. Not once in a week could we even get near the pool chairs-it needs to be inforced.
The shows were hokey and the constant smoke machine got to most of us. Mass exodus of Seniors because of that and also the annoying announcer who barely spoke English and even though the room was full of Canadians decided to speak Spanish all the time.
We had fun and found a great place to eat-Tony's On The Beach. Amazing shrimp and service-try the Kahlua shrimp!
Would we go back-probably not.
Fast check in-beware of Time Share people
Stay in the tower for a nice view and less pool noise
Restaurants and Bars:
Eat lunch at the pool buffet or pool bar. Get the cook to grill your burger and heat the bun otherwise its cold.Mustard and Mayo are down with the salads.
Hugo is funny and will try and get you a beach view table. We tipped $1.00US per person most meals. If you tip the egg lady at breakfast she will make you fresh pancakes and waffles.
Ask for Roberto at dinner and at breakfast sit in Stefania's section. Try the ugly green juice-it is pretty good. Forget the Fishermans Buffet on Friday-yucky
Lobby bar is fun and if you tip the bartender he will give you Premium brands like Heradura Tequila. Try Presidente Brandy. The waitress is wonderful and so funny
nice and clean
dont bother trying to get a cabana or pool chair-maybe if enough people complain they will do something about it

Don't carry a tab outside the resort pay as you go, we went to Joe's oyster bar after carrying a tab for drinks for a party of 4 from about 7.30 to 10 15 pm the bill was just under $200 US. We were being charged $15 US for a rum and coke in contrast we payed $20 US at senor frogs for all you can drink from 9.00 to closing and its right next to the El Cid

We just returned from El Cid Castilla Beach hotel and wanted to share our experience.
We were very happy with the resort. There are two other resorts that you are able to visit while staying at “El Cid”. Trip from the airport was uneventful, approx 45 min. We travelled with Westjet Vacations.
Check in went smooth, other than of course the “timeshare”. Unfortunately you are surrounded as soon as you check in on your way to the room. We were able to break free but were tracked down the following morning. With a firm No, didn’t have any other issues while on the resort.
Room was an oceanview, a bit extra. The regular rooms also had a bit of ocean view but they were a bit older than the tower ocean view that we had. Room was clean, great view. Beds the normal double, bit firm but fine.
Food at buffets, typical but always something to eat. No issues booking the a la cartes, again maybe because we took the 8pm supper hours.
Staff, I must say, was exceptional. Very very helpful and friendly.
Of course, like others, one needed to rise early to “save the chairs”. Must say though, that there always was a chair available, may not have been a prime location. Our pool at El Cid was heated! Nice. Pool next door was not. Bit cooler but bigger than ours. The pool at the third hotel across the road, we never went in mind you, small but heated as well – so we were told.
Beach was nice, quite a few “selling their wares” but a no thank you was good. Until the next one
This is a quick review but one I wanted to put on. I know I always want to check out others opinions and wanted to add mine to the rest.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about resort. El cid in the subject line, so I don’t delete.
