June 2009

Arrival: June 6th - June 13th
Arrived early evening and was given two clean rooms on the left side of the recept area. The resort has an issue with a sewer smell we were aware of. Went back to Karina at the desk and she kindly moved us to the right side of the recept area rooms and huge difference. Then, the next morning we requested larger rooms and for $20 per person, per night we upgraded. WOW, what a huge difference for $300 for the week, great food, service, room with kitchen, outdoor spa and ocean views, privacy, great bar....it was unbelievable. staff bent over backwards to help accomadate us.

Rooms:
Smaller hotel rooms, were cute, clean and nice. Birds make a lot of noise at this resort!

Restaurants and Bars:
The buffet for breakfast lacked some fruit I would have liked, no cream for coffee but everything else, omelettes, bacon, sausage, pancakes, pastries was fresh and delicious, bar in the regency side was awesome with top shelf alcohol, the la isla restaurant on that side was outstanding and the food was great!

Beach/Pools/Grounds:
Spectacular, immaculate

Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel:
Scuba diving with Aqua Safari in town, well worth the drive in. On site is Sand Dollar Divers - very nice but they do cattle car diving. Aqua picks you up at the resort ($3) each day per person, but soooo professional and great dive sites. No smokers on boat, Sand Dollar allows smokers!

Other Comments:
Lots of negative reviews for this place. Honestly, we are picky, usually stay at the Pueblo Bonito resorts which is a 5 diamond resort! we had a great vacation at a great price. you won't be dissapointed but if you are expecting anything other than a 3 star for food you will be. There is something for everyone to eat and the mexican night buffet they put on is great. Salad bar for lunch, hamburgers, quesadillas for lunch, mexican food, dinner is great with fine dining menu items - the upgrade for the lobster is cheap and fabulous. I'm a gormet cook so I expect more than most people. Don't let the bad reviews keep you away. We spoke to several people that have eaten at the other resorts and keep coming back for 15-16 years to the Wyndham.

Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel:

Off there was lots to do

Other Comments:
The list of details at the top of this page do not describe this resort.
There is only one a la carte restaurant to eat at not three!
The beach is not 5 star, it is a one star!
The food was good at breakfast and very average for lunch and dinner and average at the snack bar.
Almost all the people were friendly, the ones I thought were a bit grumpy were ok if you talked to them but they were too busy to talk, not their fault!
Our room was full of mold and we had to change rooms. Air conditioner was the main culprit!
Our second room was good in the newer part of the resort!
Swim up bar was in the kids pool, sometimes they served beer!
The pool was so cold hardly anyone used it except a few kids, the ocean was warmer.
If you want to swim in the ocean, on a beach it is about a 10 or 15 minute walk from the resort and the waiters try and make you pay at least $10. each on drinks. Don't listen to them.
If looking for day trips or rentals go through Jose Martin from the Time Shares, he isn't pushy and can get you better deals.
The Yellow shirt guys who do the day trips are very ignorant and won't smile until you have given them money. ( Stay away from them at all times ) This sounds like a bad review but it is just the things to watch out for. I don't like to be lied to!
All round we had a great time.
Food 2 star
Rooms 3 star
Bars 3 star
Beach 1 star
