Arrival
Upon landing in Panama, I was shocked by the poverty in the entire city, Not just in sections, but everywhere except the new small section with Hi-rises which is where our condo was situated. I wondered why no one wore shorts in this hot climate. Now I know. Insects, bugs you name it. Very filty place, and buses are 50 years old and falling apart not to mention dirty. There was construction in this new area, noisy day and night. We went there thinking to invest, but no way would I consider such a possibility due to lack of commodities that would be attractive to go back to. Most impressive were the people living there. The Spanish people were so gentle and caring and helpful to travelers. No English spoken which makes it very difficult, but they try to accomodate you.
Rooms
I don't care where you stay, watch out for ants...all kinds. Best place to stay is balboa avenue overlooking the ocean and ships. Rent a condo there are many vacant ones that investors buy and leave empty as an investment.
Restaurants and Bars
Hard to find something decent as far as clubs, and one should be careful and research where and what area it is in before attempting to go. Not much for entertainment there. A few casinos if that is what you like.
Beach/Pools/Grounds
No beaches to speak of and have to taxi or bus it there. When you reach the beach you may be dissapointed, as nothing fancy or worth seeing. Water is dirty and would never go in it.
Activities on and off the Resort/Hotel
Jungle tours...not bad, but don't book with hotels for this. They overcharge you, so go by cab tours. Got bitten by something that was on life jacket when going on panama tour boat.
Other Comments
I thought Rio de Janeiro was bad, but having been to Panama makes Rio look pretty good. I would NEVER go back to Panama even if I was paid to go. Not impressed and was counting the days to get back home. No beach front, nothing to see or do, and all that was good was the hot weather which I like, no wind, and if you don't like 80* to 90* temperatures...don't go there.
