Copamarina Beach Resort - GuanicaThe Greene's
November 2005

The resort was clean and very beautiful to look at. We had the all inclusive package as it was required with the RCI timeshare folks. We used the Copamarina as our home base. We always had breakfast there (nice buffet most days and some days a made to order breakfast) If we were venturing out we had the resort make us a lunch as we were paying for it anyway. And dinner was always in the Alexandra Room at the Resort. The dinner menu got a bit thin with 7 nights to choose from just one menu but the food was excellent and I have to say I am actually tired of lobster and filet migon. Absolutley go out into the countryside! Don't just stay at the resort or you will miss the absloute beauty of Puerto Rico! The rainforests are breathtaking! The silence (except for the coqui frog and an occasional chicken) was amazing! I took sunset pictures from the north side, west side and south side of the Island. What an amazing place. Don't be afraid to venture out but KNOW that the maps are all horrible and directions are sketchy at best. I-10 stops completely in the middle and turns into a tiny little road. All roads are steep, skinny but breathtaking! Eat in Maricau at Hacienda Juanita. It is worth the flight to PR. I didn't spend any time in San Juan. The Torre Negro rainforest was spectacular but I didn't make it to the other bigger one. The resort is clean, beautiful and the staff is amazingly helpful. One staff person even had her aunt make us some Puerto Rican food to bring back to the states! The Bio Bay is a bit of a rip off. You really can't swim in it. One boat lets you and he doesn't have a laddder. My husband cut his leg getting into the boat via the motor. Gilligans Island is amazing. When there there are to water (rivers?) both with current coming from the ocean side. Pull yourself up by the mangrove roots and when you get to the ocean side float back down the other river. It was georgeous. Wear swim shoes as the coral is brutal. Have a wonderful trip!

We stayed 2 nights (2/15-17/05) at the Copamarina Beach Resort and enjoyed it! It is a quiet little oasis in the southern part of the island that is probably designed as a destination for local islanders. The gounds were lovely, on a bay, with 2 pools and 2 jacuzzis. Rooms were large and well kept. Food services were pricy, with limited options. Service was good and everyone was friendly.

Although the resort advertises an all-inclusive rate, I would call it more of a "meal plan with liquor and some water sports" plan. There is no activity program nor entertainment other than a simple guitarist at dinner. To enjoy this facility, rent a car and get out and explore the countryside. There are lots of "nature oriented" things to do and interesting drives nearby. It probably is more of a taste of the real Puerto Rico than the mega-resorts, and is delightful!

My sister and I chose to go to Puerto Rico to a resort as we thought this would be a different destination that we didn’t know much about. We figured that not many friends and family had traveled to Puerto Rico, so, we’d have a different story. We have both traveled extensively and thought that Puerto Rico was a place of interest. We were able to locate few resorts on the internet and not many agents knew about the country, so, we chose the Copamarina Resort as the web site was wonderful and they mailed us brochures. It gave the impression of a large resort with lots to do and not too far from the airport. We arrived and once we located our driver, which we booked through the resort, we were off. The Resort was over 2 hours away which made for a long travel. Once we arrived and checked into our room, the tv was turned on and loud but wouldn’t turn off. The lights in the room didn’t work either. The resort was actually for families and kids with little to do. We were told the pools were open 24 hours a day but were asked to get out of the one pool at 9pm. The web site and brochures advertised nightly entertainment which never occurred. The restaurant was very expensive at $50 per person for the main course. The only good thing about this resort was the great weather. All in all, we weren’t impressed and would never recommend this resort.

Spending Easter week in Guanica at the Copamarina Beach Resort was peaceful and relaxing. My husband and I with our 2 daughters, 10 and 15 enjoyed the serenity and the quaintness of the resort. We didn't opt for any meal plan as we wanted to venture out for dinners. We did rent a car which enabled us to get around such as a drive to La Parguera and Cabo Roja. Driving is not difficult in PR. The restaurant at Copamarina was ok. At the restaurant I did have the infamous red snapper deep fried. It was delicious!! Overall the staff was very pleasant but very laid back and stuff happens when it happens. We did not have a problem with this. Do not expect anything such as the water taxi to arrive when it should. Just relax and swim off the dock until it shows up for either Ballena or Gilligan's Island which I recommend. Overall the Copamarina is a very pleasant and immaculately maintained resort and I would stay there again. We spent one night in San Juan at the Intercontinental compliments of Delta Airlines (they canceled our flight) which was another nice hotel. However, one night was enough. Delta reserved 2 king rooms, top floor (16th) ocean view which was fantastic. But the airplane noise while swimming at the pool or beach was deafening. The whole atmosphere was too urban jungle. I'm glad we opted for the serenity of the southern coast at Copamarina. Being surrounded by the dry forest which has great hiking trails beats high-rise hotels placed one on top of the other!
