Wonderful!
The only words to describe our visit over Thanksgiving to Le Privilege Hotel. We were welcomed and treated like guest in someone's home. Our every desire was handled instantly by Bernard, the owner and manager of the hotel. We spent a week, and frankly, Bernard made our trip very special. His knowledge of the local scene, his advise on restaurants (You gotta go to the Cottage in Gran Case) were absolutely outstanding. The atmosphere was relaxed and informal, the room was quaint and VERY clean, the view was impressive. It's a very quiet place, removed from the hustle of staying in town, and we found it met our needs perfectly. I would recommend Bernard and his hotel to anyone. We will go back again and again. I just can't say enough about how welcome Bernard made us feel. We now count him among our friends.
There are two restaurants on the grounds, both pretty good, and there is a dive shop and gift shop. It's so quiet at night that you can hear the tree frogs, and in the morning multi colored tropical birds will share your breakfast on the patio with you if you are still and non-threatening. All in all, if you are into relaxing and site seeing, it's about as good as it gets, and it's not crowded.

We stayed at Hotel Privilege in April 2004. We really enjoyed the location and beach of Anse Marcel. We appreciated the fact that the beach was not overcrowded and you could always find a lounge chair. This is not the location for people that want a lot of action (long drive from the nightlife of the dutch side) but the beaches on the French side are more beautiful. The hotel manager Bernard was very good to us and even provided decongestants when we had none and informed us of local tours and restaurants that were amazing. Try Los Gauchos and Chesterfields in Phillipsburg. Our experience was that St. Martin has amazing cuisine but you will pay a lot for it. The driving experience is comparible to rides in Disney and be careful of the mountain of death you must descend before arriving in beautiful Anse Marcel. Pedestrians appear to not have the right of way on St. Martin, be careful not to become road kill. Our room was clean but smaller than expected and nothing fancy. It provided our needs but did not pamper us. It had everything you needed but the shower was quite awkward. If you are disabled the bedroom in the loft will not be accessible. The highlight of our trip was our sailing/snorkelling adventure with Scoobi-doo. Anguilla' s beaches are amazing and the water is the most beautiful shade of blue I have ever seen! I also enjoyed snorkelling in Anse Marcel to a private beach. We will definitely go back to St. Martin. The island is beautiful and you do not have to worry about getting sick on the food like in Mexico. Hotel Privilege is a good economical hotel that is in a beautiful location with a short walk to the beach and we may stay there on a future trip.

I recently stayed at the Hotel Privilage in St.Martin.I would never ever go back.First off Anse Marcel is in a Cove at the way end of the island.First you must drive up and down what I refer to is the Mountian of Death..a scary jagged, barely paved road that goes into Anse Marcel. The hotel is scruffy.I keep hearing that Bearnard is a really great guy.(Didn't see it) We had dinner our first night a Le Veranda at the Merdian. It took 3 hours for dinner. It is all very french and alot of the shop owner don't care for Americans. They also don't like to take travelers checks or American express.Oh, try making a phone call to the states.Forget about it.The only pay phone is next to the marina.Basically it was way too exspensive, they hate americans, only want cash, we were treated so rudely by the shop person in Le Boutique underneath Hotel Privilage.I wouldn't go back if someone paid for everything and paid me on top of it! just came back from spending 8 days at Le Privilege and had a terrific time. this was our 4th trip to the island so we are in a great position to offer a review. The hotel was great. rooms are better and larger then at the Meridean (next door). the terrace and hammock chair were a delight. Short walk to the best beach on island (anse marcel). only negative is that there is no bar room charge service at beach so bring cash or CC.
Bernard (the GM) and his staff made us feel like family. not to mention that we got to know the staff at the local restaurants and shops who were also very friendly and helpful. To make most out of stay you should rent a car. when we go back to St Martin Le Privilege will defiantly be our Hotel of Choice.
